The Lighthouse Program- Diversicare’s Approach to Memory Care

The decision to move a loved one into a special care facility can be a difficult and traumatic experience. That’s why we created the Lighthouse, a secure and comfortable living environment designed to make the transition as stress-free and pleasant as possible for everyone.

In addition to comprehensive medical care, the Lighthouse provides stimulating activities and social events that engage residents and help them maintain the highest possible level of function. We also encourage residents to make some decisions for themselves to enhance their sense of control and independence. Surrounding residents with personal belongings is another way we help create a comfortable and familiar environment.

With specialized training in dementia and dementia care, the Lighthouse staff assesses each resident on an individual basis and designs a care plan to meet their specific challenges, abilities, and goals. Our integrated care team, including a 24-hour nursing staff, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, and dieticians, caters to the unique needs these residents, including:

• Mobility and strength training
• Daily activities such as eating, bathing, and toileting
• Maintaining healthy weight and diet despite often diminished appetites
• Assistance with financial and legal issues associated with long-term care

Family Support Groups

The Lighthouse staff hosts regular support groups to help families cope with the physical and emotional consequences of dementia-related diseases. Agendas may include:

• Guest speakers
• Educational programs
• Discussion groups
