COVID-19 continues to impact communities across the U.S. Given the national spread of this virus, skilled nursing care providers across the country and many right here in south Alabama, are providing care to positive COVID-19 residents. We are committed to continue our collaborative efforts with the local and state health departments to limit the transmission of COVID-19 in our center.
For the safety of our residents and team members, we made the decision to test all residents and team members, regardless of symptoms presenting because it is the right thing to do to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. As of June 1, 2020, we are caring for 44 COVID-19 positive residents.
We believe 100% testing in our center was the right thing to do to protect not only the residents in our center but also our community as a whole. As previously mentioned, a significant number of residents who tested COVID-19 positive were asymptomatic and could pose a potential risk to spread COVID-19 had we not identified their status through our testing. This data further affirms our decision to test all residents. This testing has provided us with information necessary to continue the provision of exceptional healthcare.
As previously stated, we have informed residents and designated representatives and are committed to continue to provide updates on a regular basis.
We believe we are doing everything we can to contain the spread of this within our center, including the use of approved PPE and cohorting of affected individuals into separate areas of the Center. Our infection control procedures are in compliance with the CDC and Alabama Dept. of Health guidance, and we have been working for weeks with both state and local health departments. Our nursing staff fully understands the healthcare protocols for the COVID-19 quarantine procedures.
The safety and well-being of our residents and team members continues to be our number one priority.
