In follow up to the recent reports around long term care facilities in Mississippi with active COVID-19 outbreaks, we would like to provide an update on the current status of our residents and team members at Diversicare of Amory. Diversicare of Amory is currently caring for zero COVID-19 positive residents. Forty-five of our residents that were previously COVID-19 positive have since recovered and sadly fourteen of our residents that tested COVID-19 positive passed away. We are unable to say how many of those deaths were primarily related to the effects of COVID-19. Our residents are elderly, frail, and often have co-morbidities. Many of these residents may also be receiving end of life palliative care. It is very difficult, if not impossible, in many cases to accurately determine that COVID-19 was the cause of death for many of our residents who passed away after testing positive. At this time, all team members that previously tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.
Our center implemented precautionary and preparedness measures early – all in accordance with CMS and CDC guidelines – including strict limitations on visitations. We are doing everything we can to ensure we stop the spread of this within our center and our community. Our infection control procedures are in compliance with the CDC and Mississippi Department of Health guidance. Our nursing staff is educated and understands the healthcare protocols for the COVID-19 quarantine and emergency situations.
The safety of our residents and team members continues to be our top priority.
